Frequently asked questions
What do Incoterms cover?
They clarify who arranges carriage and insurance in broad terms, and where risk transfers. They do not replace a full sales contract.
Is DDP always best for buyers?
DDP is convenient for buyers but heavy for sellers (import clearance and local delivery). Only choose it if you can operationally deliver.
FOB vs CIF?
FOB usually ends seller responsibility on board at origin; CIF adds seller-arranged carriage and minimum insurance toward destination, with risk transfer still typically at origin loading.
Should we standardise one Incoterm?
Many exporters standardise on a small set (for example FCA/FOB for experienced buyers and CIF/DAP where they control freight) to reduce quote errors.
